Superintendent of Schools

Under the direction of the Bondurant-Farrar Board of Education and its policies, the Superintendent of Schools is responsible for the operation, administration, and leadership of the school district, including the district’s curriculum, personnel, programs, and buildings. The superintendent reports to the board of education and serves as the community’s liaison to the board of education.
Dr. Rich Powers was appointed as Superintendent of Schools for the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District in July of 2014. Prior to assuming the role of superintendent, Dr. Powers held the position of principal at Cedar Falls High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa. His teaching career began at Rolling Meadows High School in Illinois’ District #214, as a technology education teacher. He later served as a department chair, dean of students, and in various assistant principal roles at Palatine High School in Illinois’ District #211. Throughout his career, Dr. Powers has also coached football, wrestling, and robotics.
Dr. Powers received Bachelor’s of Arts and Master’s of Arts degrees from the University of Northern Iowa. He earned his Administration Certification from National-Louis University in Evanston, Illinois and holds a Doctorate of Education from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.
As superintendent, Dr. Powers is an active member of several organizations including School Administrators of Iowa, Executive Leaders, and American Association of School Administrators. Locally, Dr. Powers serves as a member of Bondurant Development Incorporated.
