Bluejay Beginnings Preschool

Thank you for your interest in the Bluejay Beginnings Preschool Program, part of the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District. This program is available to families that have children between the ages of 3 and 4. The preschool program is intended for all children, regardless of background or disability. The program allows students the opportunity to interact with peers to build positive social skills, experience routines and classroom structure, explore learning through music and movement, and develop pre-literacy and math skills, all in an early childhood classroom. 

Eligibility

A child must be 3 years old on or before September 15 of the current school year and be potty trained to be accepted into the 3-year-old program. Students attending the 4-year-old program must be 4 years old on or before September 15, of the current school year. Preschool is open to students who reside within the Bondurant-Farrar School district.

Tuition

There is no tuition for 4 year old preschool classes. All tuition is covered through Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program Funding.

Likewise, there will be no tuition for 3 year old preschool classes. All tuition is covered through the ECI (Early Childhood Iowa) Grant along with funding from the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program Grant. Families who wish to have a higher priority within the lottery may apply for ECI grant funding during registration. Grant funding is based upon federal income eligibility guidelines. All required paperwork must be turned in before families will be awarded ECI grant funding and a higher priority for enrollment.

Class Schedules

Classes will meet four days a week for a half-day.  

• Tuesday-Friday 8:20-11:00 am  

           or  

• Tuesday-Friday 12:35-3:15 pm      

Lottery Registration

Registration for Bluejay Beginnings Preschool will include a lottery. Parents/guardians must submit the necessary lottery registration information to the district registrar to place their child on the lottery list for a spot in the preschool program. Parents may submit a lottery application beginning in January 2024. A lottery drawing will be held in March and families will be notified of their child’s acceptance. Special education and at-risk students will be given priority placement into the preschool program. Low-income families who apply and qualify for ECI grant funding, which is based upon federal income eligibility guidelines, will also be given priority placement into the preschool program.

Upon acceptance and in order to hold their childs spot, parents will have approximately 2 weeks to complete their childs official registration online. Also, children who participate in the 3 year old program will be guaranteed a spot in the 4 year old program if parents apply in a timely fashion.

Registration into the Bluejay Beginnings Preschool program is currently closed for the 2024-25 school year. If you'd like to place your child on the waiting list, please contact Holly Roby at registrar@bfschools.org with your child's name, date of birth, and the best method for contacting parent/guardian. If a spot in the program becomes available, you will be contacted for placement into the program.
