2024 Legislative Priorities
-
Board Approved: August 7, 2023
Local Accountability and Decision-Making
Locally-elected school board members are closely connected to students, their families, and the communities in which they live and are in the best position to understand needs and identify effective solutions. Restrictive limitations on decision-making authority inhibit innovation, efficiency, and the ability of school boards to make locally-based decisions.
Mental Health
This was a consensus choice among our team. Mental health issues among students and staff continue to be a challenge in this day and age. The shortage of mental health professionals and resources is at a crisis point.
Recruitment and Retention
We are fortunate as a district to have all certified positions filled for the 2023-24 school year. We are the exception, as many districts continue to struggle to fill core and elective teaching positions.
School Safety
While many new safety initiatives have been introduced and implemented in Iowa schools, a focus on remaining diligent will be necessary. Schools should have local control over how they spend their safety/security dollars.
