Protocol for Severe Weather

If the district issues one of these six notices, this webpage explains what impact it will have on students, families, and district employees. Click on the headers below to view protocols for each scenario.
In the event of severe weather, Bondurant-Farrar may implement one of the following:

1. Cancel classes at all schools but all offices remain open.
CLASSES CANCELED, OFFICES OPEN
Students/Families
This announcement means the following for students and families:
-
- No classes will be held.
- No breakfast or lunch service.
- No school-related activities. Depending on conditions, varsity-only activities may be authorized by district administration.
- No use of school facilities by non-BFCSD organizations.
BFCSD Employees
This announcement means the following for school district employees:

- All offices will be open.
- Less-than-12-month employees (this includes certified staff, food service, transportation, paraprofessionals, permanent substitutes, and nurses) do not report. These employees may be expected to provide service at a later date and their calendar year may be extended an additional day(s). An employee absent on the subsequently scheduled make-up day shall use appropriate leave or will be deducted salary for absence.
- All 12-month employees shall report.
- Employees shall report or remain, serving in their assigned roles, until dismissed by the superintendent or designee.

Students/Families/Employees
This announcement means the following for students, families, and school district employees:

- All offices will be closed.
- No classes will be held.
- No breakfast or lunch service.
- No school-related activities. Depending on conditions, varsity-only activities may be authorized by district administration.
- No use of school facilities by non-BFCSD organizations.
- Less-than-12-month employees (this includes certified staff, food service, transportation, paraprofessionals, permanent substitutes, and nurses) do not report. These employees may be expected to provide service at a later date and their calendar year may be extended an additional day(s). An employee absent on the subsequently scheduled make-up day shall use appropriate leave or will be deducted salary for absence.
- Custodial and maintenance are typically required to report for their normal shift unless otherwise directed by the superintendent or designee.
- All other 12-month employees not otherwise required to report should not report and will not make up a day of service.

EARLY DISMISSAL, OFFICES OPEN
Students/Families
This announcement means the following for students and families:

- All schools will dismiss early as authorized by the superintendent or designee.
- Lunch will be served. Service time may be changed to accommodate building needs.
- No afternoon preschool.
- No school-related activities. Depending on conditions, varsity-only activities may be authorized by district administration.
- No use of school facilities by non-BFCSD organizations.
BFCSD Employees
This announcement means the following for school district employees:

- All offices will remain open.
- Teachers and paraprofessionals shall be dismissed when the building is cleared of students and secured.
- Other employees shall remain, serving in their assigned roles, until dismissed by the superintendent or designee. Hourly employees are paid for time worked.
- Staff may request half or full day leave to be reviewed by supervisors on a case-by-case basis.

EARLY DISMISSAL, OFFICES CLOSE EARLY
Students/Families/Employees
This announcement means the following for students, families, and school district employees:

- All schools will dismiss early as authorized by the superintendent or designee.
- Lunch will be served. Service time may be changed to accommodate building needs.
- No afternoon preschool.
- No school-related activities. Depending on conditions, varsity-only activities may be authorized by district administration.
- No use of school facilities by non-BFCSD organizations.
BFCSD Employees
This announcement means the following for school district employees:

- All offices will close when the building is cleared of students secured.
- Less-than-12-month employees (this includes certified staff, food service, transportation, paraprofessionals, permanent substitutes, and nurses) shall be dismissed by their supervisor.
- Custodial and maintenance are typically required to continue their normal shift unless otherwise directed by the superintendent or designee. Second shift staff may have their schedule adjusted by their supervisor depending on district needs.
- All other 12-month employees shall be dismissed by their supervisor.

5. Delay the start of school but all offices open at the regular time.
SCHOOL DELAYED, OFFICES OPEN
Students/Families
This announcement means the following for students and families:

- All schools and bus routes will start late as authorized by the superintendent or designee.
- Breakfast will not be served. Snacks will be available by request.
- No morning preschool.
- All morning activities are canceled.
- Lunch will be served.
- All classes will end at the regular time.
BFCSD Employees
This announcement means the following for school district employees:

- All administrators, office staff, custodial, technology, and maintenance staff shall work their regular schedule.
- Certified staff, paraprofessionals, and substitutes shall report 30 minutes before the identified school start time. An employee who does not report by the identified school start time shall use appropriate leave or will be deducted salary for absence.
- Food service staff schedules shall be directed by their supervisor.
- Transportation staff shall report later than normally scheduled based on the length of the delay.

This announcement means the following for school district employees:

- Food service staff schedules shall be directed by their supervisor.
- Transportation staff shall report later than normally scheduled based on the length of the delay.
